dc.description.abstract | This paper investigates the convective heat transfer and flow characteristics of a fluid in the annular space between cylinders when the inner cylinder is heated and rotating. The numerical procedure uses a mesh transformation technique and the experimental investigation is based on the calorimetric technique. Variation of the overall equivalent thermal conductivity is obtained for Rayleigh numbers up to 10**6 with rotational Reynolds numbers varying from 0 to 560. Comparisons are made between numerical and experimental results for a moderate radius ratio of 2. 6. It is noted that the overall equivalent thermal conductivity increases with Rayleigh number for both concentric and eccentric stationary inner cylinder. For a fixed Rayleigh number, the equivalent thermal conductivity decreases when the inner cylinder is made to rotate. The numerical results compare favourably with the experimental results within the Reynolds number range considered here. | |
