Abstract: A study is carried out to better understand the spatial properties of light scattered from a turbid medium. The investigation is done within the context of a reflectance mode confocal microscope based on a 4-f optical system. A Monte Carlo simulation to describe the focusing and propagation of light in a turbid medium is adopted. The spatial distribution and phase space profile of the photons on different strategic planes within the system are observed and discussed. Scattering information such as scattering coefficient and the number of scattering events are matched with some of the simulation parameters to produce important information and hence their implications.
