Abstract: A multi-period, continuous-time, mixed-integer liner programming model which facilitates new product introductions in pharmaceuticals plants by optimized planning and outsourcing is discussed. The planning of one primary production site F that consumes raw materials, produces and oursources intermediates and active ingredients (Als), maintains necessary inventories, and supplies Als to secondary production sites is done. The supply chain dynamics is addressed at the plant level as they relate to the new product introductions in pharmaceutical plants. Given a set of due dates, and demands of products, the aim is to decide the optimal production levels of various intermediates, while considering in detail the sequencing and timing compaigns.
