|Abstract:||A measuring technique is outlined for the measurement of forces on submarine pipelines subjected to random wave action using strain gauge principle. A simulation method is described to evaluate the hydrodynamic coefficients in the Morison equation. An experimental investigation is carried out on a model pipeline placed at two different clearances above the simulated ocean floor and subjecting it to random waves (P-M spectra). The hydrodynamic coefficients of horizontal drag and inertia and coefficients of vertical lift and inertia have been evaluated using the simulation method.|
