dc.description.abstract | This keynote describes a comprehensive study on the performance of a floating slab track system used in a subway line, with emphasis on the effects of rail pads on the train-track vibration. An integrated approach is adopted, combining analytical formulation, numerical simulations and field measurements of the train-track system, as well as experimental investigation of rail pads. Cyclic loading tests of rail pads in laboratory are conducted to determine the dynamic characteristics of several pad types. A predictive deterioration model is proposed to describe the increase in pad stiffness due to ageing. Field measurements of pad deformations under actual train operations are carried out to verify the model. To compute equivalent ranges and cycle counts for the non-periodicity of actual vibrations on site, an analytical procedure known as the rainflow analysis is performed. The main source of excitation in this dynamic problem is the wheel-rail roughness, for which an analyticalnumerical approach is developed. Finite element analysis is employed for the back analysis to determine the roughness spectrum and the forward analysis to predict the train-track system response. | |
