Abstract: This paper examines the roles of instrumentation in selected major construction projects in Singapore. In many projects, instruments had been planned properly and their interpretations enable engineers to identify problems before they occurred and to apply appropriate remedial measures. In a small number of projects, instruments had been misused and/or instrument data had been misinterpreted leading to incorrect judgments/decisions made. This paper aims to identify the causes of problems and the lessons learnt from these problematic cases. © 2007 ASCE.
