Abstract: Large deformation and postbuckling responses of structural members may be obtained by solving the exact nonlinear governing differential equations. An easy-to-use technique, which combines the idea of shooting method and optimization algorithms, for solving the nonlinear boundary value problem is presented. This shooting-optimization technique is illustrated with some examples.
