Abstract: The present paper attempts to model the failure of welds along the connecting edge of a corrugated panel which is subjected to blast loading due to a typical hydrocarbon explosion. In essence, the continuous weld is numerically idealized as discrete spot welds with an imposed failure criterion. By using the finite element software package, Abaqus/Explicit, the responses obtained with the above criterion is compared with the rupture strain criterion. Post failure behaviour of the spot welds will be incorporated and strain rate effects will also be briefly discussed. Test results will be presented whenever possible.
