dc.description.abstract | A centrifuge model study was carried out to examine the axial and lateral responses of free-headed piles during the installation and extraction of jack-up spudcan. It is found that considerable uplift shaft friction and bending moment are induced on the adjacent piles during the spudcan penetration process. In addition, the bending moment profile is noted to change significantly from shallow spudcan penetration depths to great penetration depths. The results of half spudcan tests to examine the free field soil movements during spudcan penetration are also reported in this paper.
