Abstract: This paper discusses how to evaluate the assemblability of a product in different assembly sequences. The concept - Sensitive Tolerance in Assembly is proposed and its influence on the assemblability is studied. An approach is proposed to use transformation matrix to derive the geometric deviations of mating features caused by the tolerance and assembly clearance, and their propagation and accumulation in different assembly sequences. This approach can be used to evaluate the relative assemblability of different assembly sequences, and can be integrated in assembly planning to help find more feasible assembly sequences. © 2005 IEEE.
