Abstract: The energy gradient theory for flow instability and turbulent transition was proposed in our previous work. It was shown that the disturbance amplitude required for turbulent transition is inversely proportional to Re, which is in agreement with the experiments. In present study, the energy gradient theory is extended to include the effect of disturbance frequency on turbulent transition. The theoretical result obtained accords well with the experimental data in literature. © 2010 Publishing House for Journal of Hydrodynamics.
