dc.description.abstractA fast access, three beam swing arm optical reading head is proposed for the half-height CD-ROM disk drive. The swing arm is designed to achieve an access time in the 20 msec region for a performance comparable to the Winchester disk drive. The angular orientation of the grating is controlled so that the three beam tracking method can still be used for the circular path of the swing.
