Abstract: A QPSK signal treated as two BPSK signals in quadrature and received with an unknown phase shift in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise is considered. The decision-aided maximum-likelihood estimator of the carrier phase is derived. The error rate performance of data detection in the in-phase and quadrature-phase (I and Q) channels is obtained using this estimate and results on the distribution of the angle between two vectors perturbed by Gaussian noise. These error rate results enable us to quantify the effects of crosstalk interference on the performance of I and Q BPSK data channels to be quantified.
