Abstract: To develop quality systems, both engineering and management require fundamental principles and methodologies to guide design decision making and advanced planning. This paper presents a systematic approach to support the need for developing better system designs in the face of uncertainties. This approach is developed by integrating statistical decision theory, elements of the systems engineering process, and Taguchi's philosophy of robust design. The result is a structured, systematic methodology for evaluating system design alternatives.
