dc.description.abstract | This paper discusses the development and testing of a working prototype of a tool condition monitoring system that uses a low-cost and convenient computer-vision-based approach to analyze images of a machined surface. The prototype system is able to monitor a machining operation in-progress and give the operator feedback on the tool condition. The results clearly indicate that tool condition monitoring, defined as the ability to distinguish between a sharp, a semi-dull or a dull tool can be successfully accomplished by such a system. | |
