dc.description.abstract | A fast block INTER mode decision with adaptive thresholds algorithm has been proposed which significantly reduces the computational complexity of the encoder in H.264. The spatial homogeneity and temporal stationarity prevalent in natural video sequences are exploited in the approach. Using this algorithm, only a portion of inter modes are chosen for RDO calculation. Experimental results have demonstrated that the new method can achieve a reduction of 29.35% encoding time on average, with a negligible average PSNR loss of only 0.09 dB and a mere 0.49% bit rate increase compared with the original H.264 reference software. | |
