Abstract: A field - circuit coupled approach has been used to compute the magnetic field of a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The motor drive system has been modeled using field equations to represent its magnet system, which is coupled with equivalent circuit equations to represent the stator windings, the rotor cage bars and various control circuits. A time stepping finite element method for the solution is used. A good match between the computational and experimental results has been achieved.
