Abstract: In this paper, we present a formula for the optimal settling time for a linear second order system with actuator nonlinearities. In the asymptotic time-optimal tracking problem, we use the composite nonlinear feedback control to approximate the optimal settling time by tuning only one parameter in the control law. Comparing with time-optimal control, the simulation shows that the proposed design method demonstrates promising results. © 2003 IEEE.
