In this paper, an improved miniaturized cavity resonator (IMCR) dependent on double negative metamaterial (DNG) and epsilon-negative material (ENG) layers is designed and optimized. The length and width of the IMCR are simultaneously shortened to the half of a conventional cavity resonator. The IMCR is numerically simulated, results show that the resonance phenomenon in the IMCR is observed clearly, and the field distribution in the MCR is shown for the first time, and it is in agreement with the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the filtering characteristic of the IMCR is simulated after the IMCR is fed by two current loops, and passbands at the resonance frequencies of the IMCR are found.
