Abstract: The characteristics of a novel rectangular patch with an offset F-shaped probe are investigated. The patch height is approximately 9% of the designed wavelength. An impedance bandwidth of 36% and an average measured gain of approximately 5dBi can be achieved for the fast dominant mode. There is an additional higher order mode band, which extends the overall impedance bandwidth to 64% and provides an average measured gain of approximately 3dBi.
