The operation of a simulated counter-current adsorption system for glucose-fructose separation has been studied experimentally and simulated numerically by treating each column as equivalent to ten ideal theoretical stages. Predicted concentration profiles show good agreement with the measured profiles under both transient and cyclic steady-state conditions. Introduction of flow distributors had only a minor effect on the profile, suggesting that poor flow distribution does not contribute significantly to dispersion within the system. © 1987.
