Abstract: The biocompatible chitosan nanobeads encapsulating both QDs and paramagnetic gadrinium diethylene triamine pentaacetate were prepared. The optical properties of the QDs and chitosan nanobeads were investigated. The relative quantum yield of chitosan nanobeads with QDs and Gd-DTPA was found to improve considerably compared to that of unmodified and 3MPA-modified QDs. Using the multifunctional chitosan nanobeads, various in-vitro and in-vivo imaging techniques can be used to study the biodistribution of nanoparticles and their intracellular pathway.
