Abstract: In this paper stiffness and damping coefficients for structure-foundation systems are obtained from transient analysis by conserving the average work done and the average rate of energy dissipation by the interaction forces. As the coefficients thus obtained are frequency independent, the structure-foundation system is represented by a simple model consisting of a set of frequency independent springs and dashpots in parallel for each mode of vibration. © 1981.
