In continuation of an investigation reported earlier on crack control afforded by deformed wire fabric in concrete tension members and one-way slabs, this paper deals with prototype beams. Methods developed for predicting the spacing and width of cracks in tension members have been extended, and a test program was carried out on seven rectangular beams to provide supporting evidence. The results of this study indicate that substantial crack control in beams can be achieved if the spacing of welded stirrups is limited to certain critical values. Test results of the spacing and width of flexural cracks are found to be in good agreement with theoretical predictions.
