dc.description.abstract | The interaction of a tunnel-soil-foundation system excited by antiplane harmonic forces in a tunnel embedded in a viscoelastic half-space is investigated. A closed form substructure approach for circular geometries is obtained by employing the method of wave functions expansion and the image technique. The total soil-structure interaction problem is decomposed into a foundation radiation problem and a tunnel radiation problem. The impedance matrix for the corresponding substructure problems is obtained and used to evaluate the steady state response of a primary-secondary system. A parametric study is carried out for the effects of tunnel-foundation geometry and soil properties on the impedance matrix. The displacement amplitudes of the foundation and primary-secondary systems are found to be primarily influenced by the foundation size and spacing between the tunnel and foundation. The results obtained from the closed form solution is compared with a collocation boundary method. © 1990. | |
