Abstract: This paper will verify and evaluate the performance of three approaches that aim to determine optimal PID controller settings for "best" regulation of stochastic disturbances. The performance of the controller is measured by an index called "control loop performance index" (CLPI). Only the process dead time and routine closed loop operating data are needed to determine the CLPI. The three methods are evaluated via simulation and experimental studies. © 2005 American Chemical Society.
