Abstract: This paper discusses the development of a spreadsheet-based software for rapid design of small electric motors. Detailed analysis of design and performance optimization for a single-phase induction motor is presented in this paper; but other components of the integrated software package can be used to design and optimize most small electric motors and small transformers including high-frequency switching transformers. This software package can optimize the design of the motor with respect to many variables of design. The software is developed on MS Excel 97. The design procedure is highly interactive and based on macros so that the user can optimize designs without much difficulty. Main features of this program are the organization of all necessary design data into databases and data banks so that the user can access them with ease and can use them for the design calculations effectively.
