Abstract: It is well known that the dispersion relation for cyclotron resonance masers (gyrotrons) is similar to the dispersion relation for traveling wave tubes (TWT's). This dispersion relation is obtained for monoenergetic electron beams. Based on the study of the TWT dispersion relation by Pierce, an expression for the tolerable electron velocity spread in cyclotron resonance masers has been derived.
