Abstract: This paper presents a finite element study of the brain behavior under ventriculoperitoneal shunting A physical model to account for the brain deformation under shunting was developed and analyzed. Poroviscoelastic material modeling was incorporated in the biphasic analysis of the brain. The results showed typical characteristics of shrinking deformation and biphasic interactions in the shunting brain. This study may contribute to the understanding of the mechanism of shunting and its physical impact on the brain.
