Abstract: An experimental investigation was carried out to study the basic thermal characteristics of ferrocement. The major parameters included in the study were the volume fraction of reinforcement, mix proportions of the mortar and orientation of mesh layers with respect to the direction of heat flow. Test results indicate that a lower sand-cement ratio gives higher thermal conductivity and a lower thermal inertia. Similarly, wire mesh placed along the direction of heat flow results in a higher thermal conductivity and a lower thermal inertia than the case where mesh layers are placed perpendicular to the direction of heat flow.
