dc.description.abstractThis paper describes a series of experiments in which cups were formed by the deep drawing process using blanks of cold-rolled mild steel. Two similar sets of tools, one with titanium nitride coating and the other without, were compared. In each set, punches and dies of different edge radii were used in various combinations. The effects of these geometrical parameters, as well as the benefits of the titanium nitride coating, upon the limiting draw ratio, the punch force required and the ratio of the experimental surface area of the cup formed to the theoretical surface area were observed and analysed. © 1988.
