Abstract: This paper derives a unified representation of the Cramér-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) for semi-blind maximum-likelihood (ML) channel estimation in time-hopping (TH) ultrawideband systems with pulse amplitude and position modulation, pulse amplitude modulation and pulse position modulation (PPM). These bounds subsume the existing results for both pilotbased and blind ML channel estimation in TH-PPM as special cases. A numerical example is used to illustrate the effects of different data modulation formats and system parameters on the CRLBs derived. © 2006 IEEE.
