Abstract: In this article, we developed and implemented the convolutional perfectly matched layer (CPML) for the hybrid implicit explicit finite-difference time-domain (HIE-FDTD) method. The method is validated against the conventional FDTD-PML method and is found promising. The development of CPML is able to extend the HIE-FDTD to open surface problems, which works at higher CFL numbers in comparing to the conventional FDTD method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
