Abstract: This thesis describes the measurement of the nuclear magnetic octupole moment of 137Ba. The measurement utilizes rf spectroscopy and optical shelving to chart the hyperfine structure of meta-stable 5D states in 137Ba and provided the most precise value of the nuclear magnetic octupole moment in any atom to date.
