Abstract: To design an efficient transmission protocol and achieve good performance, it is essential to understand and address the issue of network congestion. With modern networks, we now not only have new opportunities, but also have more challenges. In this thesis, we investigate network congestion issues in the context of modern wired Internet and cellular data networks.
