Abstract: In this work, photocatalysts such as TaON and WO3 were used in the process of photocatalytic water splitting for the generation of H2 and O2 gases as the fuel for renewable energy. Chapter 2 explains the synthesis process of TaON via urea route which enables the absorption of visible light for enhanced H2 generation rate. Chapter 3 describes the loading of CuO nanoparticles with visible light-absorbing properties on WO3 to increase the O2-generating efficiency by the composite photocatalyst. Lastly, chapter 4 explains the role of the loading of AgCl/Ag hybrid nanostructure on WO3 which serves to enhance the electron-hole pair charge separation, thus further optimizing the photocatalytic rate by the composite photocatalyst.
