dc.description.abstract | This article evaluates the liberalization policies of the Filipino & Singaporean governments in light of a liberalization timetable recommended by the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD) in 2001. The authors found that adherence to the OECD timetable does not necessarily translate into benefits to consumers or the country. In the case of The Philippines, despite not following the OECD timetable, the government achieved immediate tangible benefits by liberalizing during stage one. In the case of Singapore, despite liberalizing at stage two, the government was unable to achieve a competitive environment for fixed telephone services. Tables, Figures, References. | |
