Abstract: Xiao Tan Luan Shi Hui Ke Gui Xiu Ci is an anthology of Ming-Qing female poets? ci lyrics compiled by Xu Nai Chang during the period between 1896 to 1909. This massive collection consists of 100 Ming-Qing female poets and 5043 pieces of ci lyrics. There were about 3500 female poets during the Ming-Qing dynasties alone. This phenomenon is unusual in a society that taught the women to embrace the famous saying of "A woman without talent is a woman of virtue". By examining the female poets in Xiao Tan Luan Shi Hui Ke Gui Xiu Ci, this thesis tries to explicate the engendering of women poets in late imperial China and the significance of this phenomenon in the development of ci lyrics.
