|Abstract:||A modified dynamic model is proposed for shear stress induced adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release from endothelial cells (ECs) in order to incorporate the activation mechanism by time-varying shear stress. The dynamic behavior of ATP concentration at the endothelium-fluid interface by viscous shear flow is investigated via simulation studies. The numerical results demonstrate that the ATP concentration against time at the endothelium-fluid interface predicted by the modified dynamic ATP release model is more consistent with the experimental observations than that predicted by static ATP release model. The different behaviors of ATP concentration predicted by the original dynamic model and the new one are also compared and analyzed. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.|
