Amorphous carbon nanoparticles were fabricated by laser ablation of a glassy carbon target in water. As such, the sizes of the nanoparticles ranged from 10 to 20 nm. It was demonstrated that higher concentrations of carbon nanoparticles introduce stronger optical limiting effects. Laser ablation of a glassy carbon target in water was shown to be a convenient approach by which to fabricate carbon based optical limiters.
