Abstract: The trend in RF surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filters is to include more frequency bands and provide wider bandwidths. The aim of this thesis is to investigate novel topologies for reconfigurable acoustic filters and wideband acoustic filters, while maintaining sharp SAW-filter-like selectivity. In addition, resonator based CMOS bandpass filters are also developed. Ladder type SAW filters with a reconfigurable passband, reconfigurable higher or lower passband edges are presented in low profile surface mount packages. A filter combining SAW resonators and microwave transmission lines are presented with frequency selectivity controlled by SAW resonators. Two filters with SAW-filter-like selectivity and a much larger bandwidth than conventional few percent bandwidth of SAW/BAW filters are demonstrated with bandwidth of 10.5% and 17% respectively. In addition, dual-behavior resonator (DBR) filters are presented on a PCB board with wide stopband and in CMOS technology with passive components.
