Abstract: Porous silicon has aroused research interest mainly due to its porous structure and luminescent property. Even though intensive efforts have been dedicated to the formation mechanism, there are still some aspects that are not clear. This thesis mainly focuses on how the applied potential, silicon resistivity, and electrolyte concentration influence the behaviour of porous silicon using mainly by traditional electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry and electrochemistry impedance spectroscopy. The analysis leads to new understandings for the mechanisms of both porous silicon formation and anodic oxide dissolution.
