Abstract: Bifunctional and multifunctional tertiary amine thiourea organic catalysts were synthesized and applied to the synthesis of chiral furan and oxindole derivatives, including the first organocatalytic asymmetric synthesis of 3(2H)-furanone derivatives with L-threonine derived bifunctional catalysts, preparation of chiral 2,3-dihydrofuran derivatives via a modified Feist-Benary reaction, the first direct asymmetric cyclopropanation reaction of oxindoles with L-threonine-incorporating multifunctional catalysts and asymmetric synthesis of various 3-heteroatom-substituted oxindoles.
