Abstract: Wave-current interaction is a key component of the coastal circulation and sediment transport models. However, understanding of this phenomenon is relatively incomplete due to a lack of experimental data for near-orthogonal combined wave-current flows, which are more representative of the field conditions than the co-directional wave-current cases. In view of this shortcoming, a series of experiments has been performed in a 3D wave-current basin at NUS. Waves and steady currents were generated at intersection angles of 60º, 90º and 120º, and four types of bed configurations were examined, i.e., plane concrete bed, uniform 3D marbles, fixed 2D artificial ripples, and movable sand bed. Apart from the modification of current flows by waves, the present study also focuses on the changes of wave-induced mass transport flow profiles due to the presence of currents, as well as the movable bedforms induced by wave-alone and combined wave-current flows.
