Abstract: The proton structure functions and their moments, at low Q2, and pion structure functions are derived and analyzed in an improved version of the valon model. Proton structure functions are compared with experiment data from deep inelastic scattering while pion structure functions are compared to Drell-Yan scattering where the invariant mass of the produced muon pairs falls in the range 4.05<mμμ<8.55 GerV/c2 at a fixed Q2 of 25 (GeV/c2)2. The first two moments for the pion valence structure function at Q2=49 (GeV/c2)2 are also compared with the results from the other models and experimental data. We conclude that this simple, im-proved physical picture is relevant as far as the presently attainable experimental data are concerned. ©1999 The American Physical Society.
