This paper considers ways of achieving progress in construction industry development. After a discussion of the state of affairs in the field, six inferences are outlined. These are used to assess current approaches to the implementation of measures aimed at improving construction industries of developing countries. Courses of action by which advancement can be made are suggested. Emphasis is put on central coordination and monitoring of all initiatives, and on the technological development of the industry. © 1994.
