Abstract: The causes of sealant failure on a building facade depend on the types of sealant used and the quality of installation and service. Sealant material can fail due to improper curing, aging and weather exposure. Failure can also occur if there is a large joint movement before the seal is fully cured. In other cases, sealant failure occurs because the sealants are required to take cyclic movement beyond their limits.
