This article examines the chemisorption in air-preheated wood chars that were created at heat treatment temperature as low as 140°C and 150°C and for extended preheating period up to 50 days that more closely resemble those encountered in built environment. Inert wood chars that were pyrolyzed at 1.5 minutes in TGA were also investigated. Chemisorption kinetics was studied using Elovich equation for chemisorption temperatures at 74°C, 109°C, 139°C, 168°C, 185°C, and 207°C respectively. This article found that long-term air-preheated wood chars were capable of chemisorption, just as nitrogen-heated wood chars, and these chars ignited at lower temperatures. © 2008, Baywood Publishing Co., Inc.
