Abstract: The aim of this research is to evaluate the fire resistance of high strength tubular steel columns filled with ultra-high strength concrete (UHSC). Although research work has been done on concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns and design codes are available for fire resistant design, guideline of high strength steel (HSS) and UHSC on CFST is not available. The present research aims to extend the design codes by investigating the behavior of high strength materials at elevated temperatures by means of experiments and analytical methods. The research objectives are to determining the mechanical properties of UHSC and HSS at/after elevated temperatures, investigate the fire resistance of CFST columns with UHSC and HSS experimentally, calibrate the existing method in design code and develop a new method for the fire resistance design of CFST columns, and provide design recommendations on the application of CFST columns with UHSC and HSS.
