Abstract: DSSC have been emerging as low cost solar cells for low power applications. The results presented in this thesis are focused in developing efficient photoanode characterized with enhanced charge collection efficiencies in particular low illumination conditions. Firstly, we prepared novel TiO2 aggregates for its application as a multi-functional photoanode for DSSC. Such photoanode yielded an enhanced efficiency up to 9.00% at 1 Sun and 10.84 % at 0.16 Sun. The TiO2 aggregates offer a good compromise of electron transport time and life time resulting in efficient charge collection and higher power conversion efficiency at low illumination levels. The substitutional doping of TiO2 allowed to enhance conductivity of TiO2 photoanode as well as to shift negatively the conduction band of TiO2. As result an efficiency of 9.23% at 1 Sun and 11.10% at 0.16 Sun was obtained. This is attributed to nearly 100% high charge collection efficiency under varying light conditions. This research has led new results that will be of good interest in the field of DSSC.
